Cooking

Learning to cook helps children find out about nutrition and what it means to eat healthy, understanding the difference between “sometimes foods and always food”.  Cooking engages all the senses—sight, smell, touch, taste, and hearing—enhancing sensory development and cognitive skills.

Stirring, measuring, rolling, squeezing and spreading are just a few of the kitchen tasks that allow young children to develop their fine motor and hand-eye coordination skills.

Cooking at Robyn Taylor is an activity that is filled with opportunities to learn how to measure, understanding numeracy concepts, following instructions, sequencing, and how to socialise and work as a team with peers.

Gardening

Gardening at Robyn Taylor activates children’s senses and fosters a sense of environmental stewardship and appreciation for nature. Children learn about the interdependence of living organisms, the importance of biodiversity, and the role of plants in sustaining life on Earth.

Growing vegetables and herbs in the garden exposes children to a variety of fresh, nutritious foods. They learn about the origins of food, the importance of eating a balanced diet, and the benefits of consuming fresh produce.

Gardening has been shown to have therapeutic benefits for children’s emotional well-being. Spending time outdoors, connecting with nature, and engaging in nurturing activities can reduce stress, anxiety, and feelings of restlessness. Gardening provides children with a sense of accomplishment and pride as they watch their plants grow and thrive, boosting their self-esteem and confidence.

STEM

Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) experiences are implemented regularly within the program, offering children an opportunity to explore, inquire and to solve problems through hands-on experimentation and discovery. It encourages children to think critically and creatively about how things work and why, and fosters a love of learning.

STEM activities encourage creativity and innovation as children are given opportunities to design, build, and create using a variety of materials and tools, integrating mathematics and science concepts, while learning to collaborate with peers through team-work.

STEM nurtures a generation of curious, creative, and confident learners who are equipped to tackle the challenges of an ever-changing world.

School Readiness

Coupled with Robyn Taylor’s psychological strategies, our pre-school program is both, comprehensive and holistic, ensuring children bridge the gap between childcare and their first year of Primary School, equipping them with the cognitive abilities, social and emotional skills, confidence and self-esteem to be set up for success from their very first day.

Our pre-school program involves carefully selected and tailored activities that develop phonemic awareness, numeracy, literacy, pre-writing skills and cognitive abilities. The program involves activities that help children develop social skills, confidence and self-esteem, assisting children to mature emotionally, in order to allow their true potential to shine.

The program involves the development of gross motor abilities, which is essential for physical health and well-being, and for encouraging independence and self-care. This fosters a sense of autonomy and responsibility, which are important for success in a school environment.

Robyn Taylor’s School Readiness program is well respected and recognised within the local school community.

Emotional Resilience

Robyn Taylor’s program specifically targets the development of emotional resilience, which is essential for children’s emotional growth, confidence and self esteem, and gives children the ability to be able to ‘bounce back’ from disappointment. Children learn to recognise, understand and manage their emotions effectively.

Developing resilience involves overcoming challenges and set-backs. Children gain confidence in their ability to cope with difficulties, enhancing their self esteem.

Resilient children are better equipped to form and maintain healthy relationships with their peers, and perform better academically by learning to stay focused and motivated, despite academic pressures. Children learn constructive ways to deal with stress and adversity.

Early resistance training can reduce the risk of mental health issues like anxiety and depression. Children grow into adults who are better equipped to manage life’s ups and downs.

Languages

Learning a language at a young age stimulates brain development and enhances cognitive and academic abilities. Children who are exposed to multiple languages demonstrate improved problem-solving skills, better memory retention, and increased mental flexibility compared to monolingual peers.

Learning a language exposes children to different cultures, traditions, and perspectives, fostering cultural awareness and sensitivity.

At Robyn Taylor learning Spanish and Mandarin are incorporated in the curriculum.

Magic Movers

Introducing children to sports at a young age promotes regular physical activity and helps develop essential motor skills. Early childhood sports participation lays the foundation for a healthy lifestyle and improves coordination, balance, agility, socialisation, and mental health.

Fundamental movement skills are not only essential for physical strength and well-being, they are also important for cognitive development. Research indicates that children need movement to enhance their cognitive development including brain function, coordination and nerve development. Movement helps build confidence, enhances independence, and positive self-esteem.

Robyn Taylor has partnered with Funfit kidz to deliver our Magic Movers segment on a regular basis.

Music

At Robyn Taylor, our children love to engage in singing, playing instruments and moving to the beat of the music, or acting out the words in the song.

Exposure to music in early childhood yields a plethora of developmental advantages across cognitive, emotional, physical, and social domains. Through engaging with music, children develop language skills, mathematical abilities, memory retention, and problem-solving prowess. Emotionally, music serves as a conduit for self-expression, and emotional regulation. Physically, music enhances gross and fine motor skills, while socially, it fosters communication, collaboration, and cultural appreciation. Moreover, music nurtures creativity, imagination, and critical thinking, contributing to academic achievement and laying a robust foundation for lifelong learning and holistic development.

Incursions & Excursions

Robyn Taylor children gain exposure and stimulation through a variety of incursions (visitations to the centre) such as Kindifarm, Reptile Zoo, Hatching Chick program, Ocean Adventures, First Nations experiences and more. Children broaden their perspectives, gain knowledge, stimulate their senses, and develop culture awareness.

With permission from guardians, educators take children on excursions in and around their local community, to parks and local facilities, as well as to galleries, zoos and places of interest. This enhances children’s learning experience and social skills, and enables them to develop a greater sense of connection to their community.
